Fracture Toughness of Reactive Powder Fibrous Concrete Composites under Pure and Mixed Modes (I/III)

Reactive Powder Concretes (RPC) are well known for their exceptional strength properties and durability properties. The use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) is the best way to enhance characteristics RPCs further. Among various SCMs, potential Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) proven by many researchers. However, effect GGBS on fracture toughness RPCs, especially under tearing mode, not explored. This study investigates partial replacement OPC with in non-fibrous fibrous its mode I (pure opening), III tearing), mixed-mode I/III behaviour. A significant improvement I, III, was observed due incorporating fibres RPCs. mix 30% OPC, replaced GGBS, exhibited highest values toughnesses, which were 2.35 MPa·m0.5 0.98 MPa·m0.5, respectively, significantly high compared control RPC mixes. reveals ability as an SCM improve mixes, thereby delaying failure process structural components.
